The first collection of scientific articles “Problems of Law and Law Enforcement” was published in 1997. It was not included in the list of professional editions in legal sciences. The first collection included articles on the problems of jurisprudence and law enforcement relevant to the Donetsk Region. The issue of methods for tutoring general and special disciplines in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine was covered. The founder of the collection is Donetsk Law Institute at Donetsk State University. Format: A-5.

In 1999 the status of the periodical “Problems of Law and Law Enforcement” was changed from a collection of scientific articles to a collection of scientific papers. Since then the collection is included in the list of professional editions on the problems of jurisprudence and law enforcement. The updated issue covered the development of law and law enforcement. For the first time an attempt to create a separate research area in the study of the sociology of the history of law enforcement and management in the field of legal order was made.

The founders of the collection are Donetsk Law Institute at Donetsk State University and Donetsk State University. Format: A-5.

In 2004 the professional collection of scientific papers “Problems of Law and Law Enforcement” passed a new state registration. The collection considered general theoretical and historical aspects of the state and law, current issues of the crime control.

In 2009 the collection of scientific papers “Problems of Law and Law Enforcement” passed a new state registration due to the changes in the Foundation Treaty, the language of edition and the format of the collection (Certificate of State Registration № 3573 series of the State Committee dated September 3, 2009). The collection examines the general theoretical and historical aspects of the state and law, highlights the problems of crime control, current issues of constitutional and other branches of law.

In 2016 the collection of scientific papers “Problems of Law and Law Enforcement” was re-registered (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine № 241 dated March 9, 2016).

According to the Order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine dated 30.05.2017 the collection was re-registered in connection with the change of name to the “Law Journal of Donbass”.

In July 2017 the jubilee edition of the collection was published. On the occasion of its 20th anniversary the edition received a new name, a patriotic cover, an updated Editorial Board and began a new milestone in its development and improvement.

According to the results of the expert assessment the collection of scientific papers “Law Journal of Donbass” is included in the international scientometric database “Index Copernicus International” (Republic of Poland): ICV in 2017 – 67.54; ICV in 2018 – 72.95; ICV in 2019 – 82.92. According to Index Copernicus International experts, the edition was included in the top 10 legal publications from Ukraine in 2019.

According to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of № 409 dated 17.03.2020 “On approval of decisions of the Certification Board of the Ministry on the formation of the List of Scientific Professional Editions of Ukraine” the collection of scientific papers of Donetsk Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is included in the List of Scientific Professional Editions of Ukraine as a printed periodical of category “B” in the field of legal sciences (081 – Law).

On April 28, 2021 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the institution the front cover of the collection was updated. This is the embodiment of the Development Strategy of the institution and a reflection of the philosophy of the scientific edition.

On August 30, 2022, the rector of the Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs, Serhii Vitvitskyi and the director of the Helvetyka Publishing House, Oleh Holovko, signed a cooperation agreement. From now on, the publishing house “Helvetica” will publish the scientific journal of the university “Law Journal of Donbass”.

Since Helvetica Publishing House became the publisher of the journal, the concept of the publication has been updated and modernized, which is reflected in the design of the new cover.
