This article provides the need to create a new generation of foreign language textbooks. The processes taking place in the educational space of Ukraine have made possible the situation in which the teacher has the right and opportunity to choose the model of building courses in any academic subject, including foreign languages, choose textbooks, manuals and other teaching methods. Under such conditions, the teacher really feels like an equal master in the organization of the educational process, because, relying on his own professional experience and taking into account the objective and subjective factors of this process, he provides himself with everything necessary, which he believes will contribute to his effective activities and successful implementation of goals and objectives. At the present stage, a significant number of textbooks and manuals for learning foreign languages have been created. Unfortunately, a significant number of textbooks are superficial, unsystematic and do not meet the principles and requirements of professional orientation. The textbooks and manuals were and remain the best tools for learning, including the study of foreign languages, if it is built in accordance with established methodological requirements. Only methodically correctly planned teaching manual will be effective for training. In the process of its use, applicants understand the near and distant goals, determine their language and speech level. The didactic and methodical conditions under which the organization of work with the textbook in the classroom will be effective and will promote the formation of intercultural communication skills. The textbook allows you to set your own speed of learning and assess your progress in learning the material. With the help of the textbook it is possible to plan, develop and analyze your own learning and control strategy. The results of the introduction of a new textbook created by the teachers of the department into the process of teaching English have been provided. The article reveals the peculiarities of writing textbooks and manuals for teaching foreign languages for professional purposes. The basic principles of textbook writing have been considered, the main mistakes in creating manuals have been analyzed.
