WAYS OF POLICE INTERACTION WITH PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The paper highlights the issues of clarifying the effective ways of interaction of law enforcement agencies and persons with special needs. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties faced by law enforcement officers during interaction with this category of citizens, and which can cause misunderstandings in the communication process. It is noted that law enforcement officers must have some knowledge and skills that would contribute to successful communication with people who have special needs. The professional activity of a police officer is to maintain the rule of law in specific conditions of relationships between people, which can indicate the level of his professional competence, as well as to assist those who need it. The level of confidence of the population in the police is the main criterion for assessing the effectiveness of its activity. The authors emphasize that during the interaction with people with special needs the police are obliged to manage their feelings and aspirations without losing dignity, and orientations in the situation, one of the main factors that influence the effectiveness of interaction is the proper training of law enforcement. Police should be aware of different types of disabilities and the peculiarities of the behavior of persons who have such needs. It is important that training includes not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills. The authors place particular emphasis on training police officers to work with people with special needs, taking into account their specific needs. Creating conditions for effective interaction between police and people with disabilities is essential to ensure fairness, safety and inclusion in society.
