GENDER STEREOTYPES IN THE SECURITY AND DEFENSE SECTOR OF UKRAINE: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS FOR OVERCOMING

Abstract

The article examines the problem of gender stereotypes in the security and defense sector of Ukraine, which is becoming particularly relevant in the context of a full-scale war, army reform and the transformation of social relations.It is emphasized that traditional ideas about «male» and «female» roles still retain their influence on the professional environment, forming a biased attitude towards women in the security structures. Such stereotypes limit the opportunities for self-realization of military personnel and security sector workers, affect the distribution of tasks, promotion, access to resources and the perception of professional competence.Gender biases reduce the effectiveness of human potential, create barriers to attracting qualified female specialists, and also hinder Ukraine’s integration into NATO standards, which are based on the principles of equality, respect for diversity and non-discrimination.The study emphasizes the specifics of the formation of gender perceptions in the military environment, where a hierarchical structure, a high level of discipline and conservative values prevail. It is emphasized that overcoming gender stereotypes will contribute not only to ensuring equal rights and opportunities, but also to increasing the efficiency of the security sector, strengthening the state's defense capability, and creating an inclusive, professional and motivating environment.The article proposes directions for improving gender policy: conducting systematic information and educational campaigns, integrating gender issues into the training of management personnel, improving the regulatory framework, developing mechanisms to prevent discrimination and ensuring equal access of women and men to service and career growth in the security and defense sector of Ukraine.
